[A Short Story from My Heart] The Weight of Truth
Young Choi, Professor of Regent University
One day, I caught the truth.
At first it was no bigger than my palm — honestly, nothing much to brag about.
So, I trimmed it a little.
I kept the parts people would enjoy and shaved off the dull facts.
And just like that, the truth doubled in size.
When I brought it to the village, people marveled.
“I’ve never seen a truth like this!”
I nodded with a humble expression. Though by then, I had already grown a little larger than the truth itself.
The next day, I worked on the truth again.
This time I smoothed the story out and added a lesson that was pleasant to hear.
Strangely, the truth grew again — now almost too heavy to carry.
People call me wise.
I decided to believe them. After all, truth is heavy, and praise is light.
A few days later, I could no longer lift the truth at all.
So, I set it down to rest — but the trouble was, it pressed down on me instead.
Now I lie beneath it, writing this.
If someone could come and lift this truth for me, that would be wonderful.
Just — trim it a little first. Make it a little lighter, please. +++
