[A Short Story from My Heart] Truth Grows on the Way Home - The 100th Post
Young Choi, Professor of Regent University
One day I went down to the river to fish for truth.
People said it was hard to catch — but once caught, it made things rather inconvenient.
I cast my line half-believing, half-doubting.
After quite some time, the rod bent hard.
“Finally,” I muttered, and pulled with all I had.
What came up out of the water was… a fish no bigger than a finger.
I looked at it for a moment, then nodded.
“Of course. The very truth I was looking for. Up close, it’s always like this.”
I tucked the little fish carefully into my pocket and headed home.
Along the way, I ran into a few people.
“How’d it go?” they asked.
I thought for a moment, then said:
“Caught something enormous.”
And that’s when a strange thing happened.
The fish began to grow — in my pocket, in the story, and in the expressions on people’s faces.
By the time I reached home, I knew it for certain:
Truth, when first caught, is small —
but it grows fastest of all on the road back home.
And perhaps —
it isn’t I who raises it,
but the people who hear about it. +++
