Autumn Sky and Birds in Flight - Haibun
Prose
The autumn sky stretches endlessly, deep and blue. The breeze that has wandered across the fields stirs the leaves, while sunlight glimmers softly in the transparent air. I happen to lift my eyes and see a few small birds crossing the vast expanse of the sky. Their wings beat lightly, and no boundaries or fences seem to limit the direction of their flight.
Where have these birds come from, and where are they going? Watching them pause for a moment in the sky before disappearing into the distance, I find myself reflecting on the passage of time, which no one can hold back, and on what it means to live freely. The autumn sky says nothing, yet in its silence, my thoughts seem to fly farther than ever.
Haiku
Autumn sky so blue—
birds soar freely overhead,
white clouds drift away.
